TORONTO – Independent TV and telecom operator VMedia announced today the launch of its Home Phone app, which will let the company’s home phone subscribers access their home line on any smartphone while in a Wi-Fi hotspot, turning that service into a virtual mobile phone.
VMedia Phone subscribers can receive incoming calls to their home phone number directly on their smartphone, and make up to two simultaneous calls, according to the press release. This means the VMedia Phone app can be downloaded to two smartphones, and both users can dial out at the same time.
The VMedia Phone app also enjoys the same unlimited calling and long distance benefits as the Home Phone – from anywhere. If a subscriber has VMedia’s Unlimited Canada plan, the subscriber can call Canada from anywhere in the world, at no cost.
All other popular home phone features are included in the app, such as caller ID with name display, voicemail, three-way calling, and many more. It also allows incoming and outgoing calls from and to the smartphone.
The new app also eliminates the need to purchase any adapters. Consumers can download the free app by searching VMedia Phone in the Apple’s App Store or Google’s Play Store and sign in with their VMedia credentials, or by scanning the QR code located in ‘My Account’ online.
“Everyone is painfully aware of the high cost of mobile phone services in Canada” said Alexei Tchernobrivets, VMedia CEO, in the release. “Our new VMedia Phone app gives consumers a virtual mobile solution that has all of the important elements of a mobile phone, at a fraction of the price. No costly long distance, no painful airtime, and no roaming charges.”
VMedia currently offers two home phone plans to choose from, Unlimited Canada for $15.95 per month and Unlimited World for $26.95 per month, both of which the subscriber can access anywhere through the VMedia Phone app. Beginning April 1st, Unlimited Canada will be expanded to Unlimited North America, providing greater calling freedom to all Home Phone subscribers, says the company’s release.
