Vista Radio, Micallef, part ways; Miles to be interim CEO

COURTENAY, B.C. – Vista radio co-founder, president and CEO Margot Micallef has resigned from the company, employees were told earlier this week. Former Rogers Radio president Gary Miles, a member of the Vista board of directors, will act as interim CEO until a permanent successor is found.

“I have worn many hats since founding Vista, including chair of the board, CEO, president and Board Member,” Micallef said in her resignation letter, which has caught many in the industry by surprise. “In my capacity as president and CEO, I have taken Vista as far as I can and now believe it is time for a new leader to take Vista to the next level. I will stay on as a board member and I remain a shareholder of the company. Westerkirk Capital and the board of Vista remain committed to the continued growth and success of Vista.”

Cartt.ca just last week ran a feature piece on Micallef and the growth of Vista Radio, which has very quickly developed into one of the largest radio companies in the country, with 64 station licenses.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed every role I have played at Vista and am so proud of what we have built over the seven years from conception to our partnership with Westerkirk Capital to the 64 licenses we hold today,” said Micallef in her letter. “There is still much to accomplish. But as I have said on many occasions I believe in the greatness that is within each of you and I believe that Vista has the ability to be one of the pre-eminent communications companies in Canada.

“I am excited about the future of Vista and what you will all accomplish as a team. I look forward to seeing each of you and Vista attain ever greater heights.”
