VisionTV launches Christian Channel tomorrow

TORONTO – Nearly five years in the making, Canada’s first all-Christian, nationally licensed, digital TV service launches tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 6 a.m. on Rogers Digital Cable.

The VisionTV-owned service will feature ministries, current affairs, movies, music and drama for the country’s 22 million Christians. Its mission is "to entertain, inform, enlighten and inspire" both practicing Christians and those still seeking,” says the press release.

The service "will be able to offer Canadians a wider selection of the best Christian programming from around the world on a 24/7 basis,” said Mark Prasuhn, president and general manager of The Christian Channel.

"There is a large and very enthusiastic audience for high-quality programming that explores all aspects of Christian belief. These viewers are passionate, loyal and committed, and it is our great privilege to be able to enhance their current array of viewing choices."

The Christian Channel’s inaugural schedule includes the music series The Gaither Gospel Hour, the dramas Highway to Heaven and Twice in a Lifetime, and weekly Christian movies such as Left Behind.

Other highlights include popular television ministries such as James Robison: Life Today, Joyce Meyer – Life in the Word, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn: This Is Your Day, Peter Popoff Ministries, It Is Written and Tomorrow’s World.

"Christians in Canada desire and deserve more television programming that celebrates the faithful life,” said Dr. Brian C. Stiller, president of Tyndale University College & Seminary in Toronto and the chair of The Christian Channel’s council of reference. “The long-awaited launch of The Christian Channel is a development that we hope will serve to enrich many lives."

It will launch initially on Rogers Digital Cable (channel 396).
