TORONTO — The CBC, in partnership with the Canadian Audio-Visual Certification Office (CAVCO) and the Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA), is launching a series of short virtual information sessions on topics related to the business and financing of TV, film and original digital content.
The virtual workshops’ target audience is emerging independent producers and content creators from underrepresented groups in the industry, including women, Indigenous peoples, visible minorities, LGBTQ2+ persons, and persons with disabilities.
The 17 free sessions will take place every weekday at 2 p.m. ET over a three-week time period, from Wednesday, June 10 to Friday, July 3 (with the exception of July 1). Each 30-minute session will include 20 minutes for content presentation and 10 minutes for questions. The sessions are meant to introduce emerging producers and creators to a topic and provide them with resources to learn more.
Some of the topics include: setting up a business, how to pitch, chain of title, building a development budget, building a production budget, finding financing, working with broadcasters and distributors, working with unions and guilds, and tax credits.
