Virgin Mobile goes to Manitoba

WINNIPEG – Knighted cell phone service, Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Mobile, today launched in Manitoba.

Virgin offers lower rates and no contracts or additional fees. It runs as an MVNO on the Bell Mobility network in Ontario and Quebec already but is launching in Manitoba on the MTS Allstream network.

"Of the people who do have a mobile phone in Canada, the majority are locked into long-term contracts, are paying hidden fees or extra charges," said Andrew Black, president and CEO of Virgin Mobile, in the launch press release. "Customers are losing out and they’re paying more than they need to for their mobile phone services. Virgin Mobile will continue the success it’s already experiencing across Canada into Manitoba by bringing some much-needed choice and simplicity to the market.”

"We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our mobile service to residents of Manitoba," said Black. "The percentage of Canadians in Manitoba with mobile phones is among the lowest in the country at just over 35%. This is a perfect market opportunity for Virgin Mobile.”
