Videotron steps on the gas


MONTREAL – Videotron announced a data speed increase today so that by September 7th all residential and business subscribers will be able to get up to 7 Mbps for no extra cost.

Until now the limit had been 5.1 Mbps.

The company has about 730,000 Internet customers.

Videotron also launched a new offer for university students in its regions.

Students from HEC, UQAM, McGill and Concordia universities will be entitled to a more than 20% rebate on Vidéotron’s High-Speed Internet Service. Provided a 12-month subscription, the students can take advantage of the $29.95 per month service. They must get the modem from the COOP of their institution. Service installation is free et and the offer is valid from now through February 28, 2007.

Those students can pair cable telephone service with High-Speed Internet for a monthly total of $49.95.
