MONTREAL – Videotron has vowed to create more than 500 full-time positions in 2009, from engineering and information technology (IT) through to customer service, technical support, finance, marketing, construction, network maintenance and human resources.
Construction of the company’s new wireless network, an investment of $800 million to $1 billion, according to the press release, will create “several hundred new jobs” through 2010, predominantly in engineering and IT. And the company predicts that these positions will be in addition to “hundreds of openings for other corporate projects,” plus the jobs created by other companies that will work on construction of the network.
“In this period of economic uncertainty, Videotron is glad it can make positive contributions to the Quebec economy by creating a significant number of jobs and solid career opportunities,” said president and CEO, Robert Dépatie, in the release. “Since Videotron enhanced its focus on customers in 2003, we have virtually doubled our team to more than 4,200 individuals today.”
As part of its recruiting program, Videotron has developed partnerships with specialized schools and universities to offer internships and bursaries to interest students in the telecommunications industry.
