SAGUENAY, Que – Videotron has officially launched its wireless telephone service in the Saguenary-Lac St-Jean area, the fourth region of Quebec to have access to the service for residential and business customers.
There are a potential 200,000 clients in the area, more than half of whom already subscribe to Videotron services, the company says.
Videotron says the service will stimulate competition by offering an alternative, and will help boost Quebec’s wireless penetration rate, which is behind the rates in the U.S. and the rest of Canada.
With bundling, residential customers can get four Videotron services (wireless, basic Internet, digital cable, and cable telephone) for $89.95 a month, all fees included. Business customers can get 300 anytime wireless minutes a month plus basic Internet for $68.95 a month. Wireless is also available separately in individual packages of 50, 300, 500, or 700 minutes of airtime, or a time-sharing plan of up to 900 minutes that can be split among up to five people for residential or business accounts.
Quebec City, Gatineau, and Sherbrooke already have the wireless service. The company has already announced plans to roll out wireless across all its service areas by the end of this year.
