MONTREAL – Videotron has launched what it says is the country’s first exclusively mobile TV channel.
Called Lib tv, the French-language channel targets a “zany, edgy audience” for its “wacky, irreverent, informative and innovative programming” that includes of eight different shows including Nouvelles-Minute, a newscast that airs Monday through Friday.
Lib tv is available now on free preview through June 26 to Videotron customers on illico mobile, illico web and illico TV (channel 900), and on all Android and iPhone handsets here.
Videotron president and CEO Robert Dépatie teased the arrival of the new channel at the Canadian Telecom Summit last week where he described Lib tv as “a truly integrated offering that will demonstrate how well a television concept can be integrated with mobile programming”. Actor Patrick Huard, who also depicts a deranged psychiatrist in the show Traitement Choc, is the channel’s head of programming.
“Québec has an incredible pool of talent,” said Huard in the announcement. “I wanted to develop a platform where people can access original, unique content featuring both well-known actors and up-and-coming talent.”
That talent also includes actor André Sauvé, who plays a colourful character named Mr. Ramesh, and comedy duo Les Denis Drolet who appear on Entre nous deux.
