Vice Canada, Telus Fund hosting mental health Q&A with rapper TOBi

TORONTO — Vice Media Group and the Telus Fund announced today they are hosting a virtual Q&A about mental health with rising rapper and singer TOBi (above) on Vice Canada’s Facebook page this Thursday at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT.

The event will be hosted by Vice’s Manisha Krishnan and is being held in celebration of the Take Care incubator program, launched by Vice Media and the Telus Fund earlier this year.

Award-winning rapper TOBi was born in Nigeria and moved to Canada as a child. His 2020 album Elements Vol. 1 was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, and it won the Juno for Rap Recording of the Year and was nominated for Contemporary R&B Recording of the Year.

Mental health has always been important to the rap artist, says a press release.

“TOBi became a youth engagement coordinator out of university. And, on top of recording and performing, TOBi is the organizer of UNPACK Toronto, a series of discussions on mental wellness in creative fields,” the release says.

In addition to the Q&A, the virtual event will feature a look at three recently unveiled docuseries supported by the Take Care incubator, which are available to stream for free on the Take Care hub.
