Vertical Integration: Tweeting the hearing: #Rogers faces the #CRTC for #ivi

FOR THOSE AMONG you who use Twitter, you’ll recognize the hashtags in the headline. For those who don’t, the hashtags are those # signs attached to words or acronyms that help those of us who use and like Twitter to keep track of topics and conversations on the micro-blogging site.

There are a number of conversations I follow when I “tune in” to Twitter, like #CRTC and #UBB for example, or #cts11 during the recent Canadian Telecom Summit (although this week, that hashtag means California Travel Summit). This week, we have a new one, #ivi, which is the bilingual tag for the vertical integration hearing.

As an experiment, I decided this morning to cover Rogers Communications’ appearance in front of the Commissioners on Twitter only. Often during these hearings, I attempt to take notes for a “real” story while adding a new bon-mots on Twitter for those of us watching and contributing to the conversation at the CRTC.

This time, it was just me, the folks I follow and some who follow me, and Tweetdeck, the application I use to keep track of those people, brands and conversations I follow about our industry along with a few other things or people I like.

Then to make it a little easier and viewer-friendly, I dropped the Tweets from #Rogers appearance this morning into Storify, another app built for Twitter.

We’re not sure it really works (and you can find it right here) because it’s a little odd to read a Twitter conversation stream in reverse, but we’d be interested in knowing what you think about exploring some of the new and different ways of covering the industry using some of the available social media tools. Anyone can follow the conversation on Twitter using any of the tags mentioned here, but we’d like to know if our attempted curation of these tweets adds value – or not.

Drop us a line and let us know via @gregobr or editorial@cartt.ca.

BTW, check Cartt.ca for the “normal” coverage of Quebecor’s appearance as well as Teksavvy, Public Mobile and Allarco.
