NEW YORK – Saying they are looking to “unlock next generation consumer content experiences," Verizon and Snap Inc. (Snapchat) announced a 5G partnership this week.
Under the deal, Snap will develop new augmented reality (AR) features and experiences in collaboration with Verizon at Verizon’s 5G Labs, including opportunities to experience live events in new ways through Snapchat. The partnership will also see Verizon ad placements within Snap Original videos and the two companies will work together on exclusive distribution and co-marketing initiatives.
“Our strategy is to partner with the best brands to ensure our customers have exclusive access to cutting edge technology and services. Our 5G Ultra Wideband technology should change the way mobile users forever experience places and events, evolving the way they see the world,” said Frank Boulben, Verizon’s senior vice-president of marketing and products, in the release. (Cartt.ca readers might remember Boulben as Rogers Communications chief strategy officer from 2014-17 and before that, as CMO at BlackBerry).
Snapchat is one of the largest digital platforms in the world, reaching over 200 million people every day, including 90% of all 13 to 24 year-olds and 75% of all 13 to 34 year-olds in the U.S.
