Vecima beefs up management over past year

VICTORIA – Wayne Fredin joined Vecima Networks Inc. earlier this year as VP of sales as part of a strengthening of senior management that began a year ago at the small cableco owner and designer, manufacturer and retailer of products that enable broadband access to cable, wireless and telephony networks.
“At this stage of Vecima’s rapid growth and development it is fitting that we put in place a foundational management team which holds the skill set necessary to deliver upon our vision. I am very pleased to have put together this creative and capable team and am confident that we are well poised to achieve our goals,” said Vecima Networks Inc. chair and chief executive Surinder Kumar.

Fredin will be responsible for overall coordination, functional management, and leadership of all of the sales activities of Vecima, including growing its wireless sales organization to support WiMax sales and its complete line of broadband last mile communications products.

As well, Graham Carrothers joined Vecima as corporate counsel and secretary in May 2006. He is concentrating on mergers and acquisitions, along with managing the company’s IP portfolio and securities regulatory requirements in Canada, the U.S., and other countries. Previously, Carrothers was a finance analyst and legal counsel at Global Securities Corp. in Vancouver.

There have also been a number of internal promotions over the past year, including Douglas Fast moving up to executive VP. He will work with Vecima’s senior management team to develop, manage and execute the company’s overall strategy. He retains his role of VP of research and development.

Tracy Miller has also been promoted to the position of VP of manufacturing. She will head up the company’s 600-person manufacturing team.

Sumit Kumar has been elevated to the position of VP of Corporate Strategy. He will lead the corporate strategic planning process and his primary role will be overall corporate development.
