BANFF – Canwest Global will be shutting down its Fine Living Canada specialty TV channel and replacing it on the dial with a Do-It-Yourself (DIY) TV service.
“We have never grown as much as we’d like with Fine Living, so we won’t be going forward with it,” said Emily Morgan, vice-president of content at the Food Network, Fine Living and Discovery Health.
Instead, she said Canwest would be launching a DIY channel, which is “appropriate given the economy.”
Both brands are Scripps Networks cable channels Stateside and DIY would likely fit in better with Canwest’s investment in home improvement star Mike Holmes. For that matter, Fine Living’s programming has its fair share of home improvement shows already. In fact, when Alliance Atlantis owned Canwest’s slate of specialties, it held a license to launch the DIY net as a category two digital specialty.
No more details were revealed, such as when Fine Living will go off the air.
Morgan was speaking at a broadcaster briefing at the Banff World Television Festival on Wednesday morning and updating producers on the programming being sought.
