REGINA – After declaring an impasse in negotiations towards a new collective agreement with Sasktel, Unifor said that it is seeking assistance from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service in the hopes that an independent third party will move talks forward.
The union, which represents about 3,000 workers at Sasktel, claims that it has yet to receive monetary proposals from the Crown Corporation, despite repeated requests.
"Members have been clear that job security, mental health and fair compensation are priorities in these negotiations and all we are seeking is a fair deal," said Penny Matheson, president of Unifor Local 2S, in a statement.
"It is frustrating that SaskTel is clearly unwilling to engage in meaningful negotiations on the issues identified as the priorities by our members," added Unifor's national president Jerry Dias.
Billed as Canada's largest union, Unifor said that it represents “thousands” of Saskatchewan Crown corporation workers.
