Two new area codes now alive in GTA

OTTAWA – Starting today, the new area codes 437 and 365 are officially available for new telephone numbers in the Greater Toronto Area. The new 437 area code will serve the same region as the 416 and 647 area codes, while the 365 area code will be added to the 905 and 289 area codes. Increasing demand for telephone numbers, particularly for wireless devices, has created a need for additional numbers to serve customers in these regions.

The new area codes will come into effect as new telephone numbers are introduced. It is important to note that numbers with the current area codes will continue to be assigned for the next few months until there are none remaining. These new codes will provide additional telephone numbers to the area with no impact on existing telephone numbers and customers.

“The new 437 and 365 area codes are now available in the Greater Toronto Area and will be assigned to customers with new telephone numbers over the coming months,” said Glenn Pilley, director of the Canadian Numbering Administration, in a release.

The introduction of a new area code in a region does not affect the local calling areas or the way long distance calls are dialed. Special numbers like 9-1-1 will still be dialed using only three digits.

New area codes will also be introduced in the upcoming months in several other regions throughout Canada including Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
