TORONTO – Hosting five free community events in Thunder Bay next week is the beginning of a new approach to connecting with Ontarians, the provincial public broadcaster said today.
The plan is to directly connect with more Ontarians on the local level and next week’s activities in Thunder Bay is just a start. "When we roll into town, we want to be able to offer something for everyone," said Ian Mishkel, TVOntario’s managing director of marketing and communications.
TVO events in Thunder Bay include a speech by Studio 2 host Steve Paikin as part of Lakehead University’s Speakers Series, educational seminars for parents, teachers and homeschoolers, and two live stage shows by TVOKids Don’t Sit Still tour.
Mishkel added this new, broadened, approach is consistent with TVOntario’s mandate as the educational communications authority for Ontario TV viewers. "We already do more than 200 community events every year," he says. "This approach is not about getting out more. It’s about giving the community more every time we get out."
