TVO names Ferri as VP, current affairs and documentaries

TORONTO – Veteran journalist John Ferri is joining TVO as vice president, current affairs and documentaries.

Ferri (pictured) joins TVO from Toronto Star Newspapers Ltd where he was most recently digital editor responsible for thestar.com. In this role, he managed a multimedia team of editors, designers and technical support and was responsible for the content and editorial direction for one of Canada's most prominent news websites.  Ferri began his career at the Toronto Star as a reporter and subsequently held a number of positions including Assistant Managing Editor – Weekends, Assistant Managing Editor – News, Editor – Arts and Life, and Opinion Page Editor.  He also has experience with digital start-ups, and was responsible for the day-to-day news-gathering efforts of a staff of editors and freelance reporters in six major Canadian cities as Managing Editor at Openfile.ca.

Effective May 5, Ferri will be responsible for leveraging TVO's brand of Ontario perspective in-depth current affairs to increase citizen engagement.

"John brings a depth of experience and knowledge, in particular with digital platforms, that will help TVO step forward as a digital media organization serving all Ontarians," said CEO Lisa de Wilde, in the announcement.  "As a journalist with decades of experience, John is well-positioned to help TVO support new content creation, reach and impact."
