TORONTO – A new 3D motion sensing and control device from Leap Motion launching today includes a free educational motion-based activity app for kids developed by TVO.
Caterpillar Count, a free TVOKids math activity for preschoolers, is now available on the Leap Motion platform and can be downloaded at Leap Motion’s app store.
Originally a mouse-controlled activity at tvokids.com, the new Caterpillar Count allows kids to move their fingers in the air to help a caterpillar grow while learning to count in sequence.
According to information posted on Leap Motion’s website, the device senses a user’s hands, allowing them to interact with their laptop by pointing, waving at, reaching for and grabbing the objects that are on the screen. The controller retails for $79.99.
“TVO has a proven track record in educational media, and we’re invested in building on that by exploring how gesture technology can enhance learning outcomes for children,” said Patricia Ellingson, TVO's creative head of children’s and parent’s media, in a release. “Caterpillar Count is a perfect example of how TVO blends its expertise and curriculum-based TVOKids content with new technology to help prepare today's kids for school and life in the 21st century.”
“TVO is committed to using emerging technologies to research and explore its potential, and start conversations about its impact on how kids learn. We want to facilitate change in the digital education space,” said Alia Lachana, TVO’s director of innovation and business development.
