TVO announces new board chair, vice chair

TVO Media Education Group (TVO) on Tuesday announced new leadership for its board of directors following appointments by the Government of Ontario.

Fion Anastassiades has been reappointed to TVO’s board and designated as chair for a five-year term. Adesua Ezeokafor is joining the board as a new member and has been appointed as vice chair, also for a five-year term.

Anastassiades, who joined the TVO board as vice chair last year, is an Ottawa-based consultant with 20 years of experience leading strategic programs, enterprise transformation, and organizational growth across sectors, according to his bio. In addition to founding a consultancy specializing in strategic program delivery, he has also co-founded firms in international business development and animal health innovation.

“Deeply committed to the not-for-profit sector, he partners with organizations to strengthen governance, infrastructure, and digital capabilities that enable lasting impact,” Anastassiades’s bio reads.

Ezeokafor, based in the Greater Toronto Area, is a senior finance executive and chartered director “with extensive experience in financial leadership, governance, risk management, and organizational oversight across manufacturing, biotechnology, and energy,” her bio says. She is chief financial officer of +OSB, a Canadian manufacturer based in Burlington, Ont., and previously held senior finance roles at Fusion Pharmaceuticals, which was acquired by AstraZeneca, and at Phillips 66 Canada.

She currently serves as treasurer of the Oakville Symphony and chair of the Ontario Tax Committee of Canadian Manufacturers and Exporters. She previously chaired the finance and audit committee of the Council of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario.

“Fion and Adesua bring the kind of perspective TVO needs for this next chapter: thoughtful, ambitious, and firmly focused on impact,” Pary Bell, CEO of TVO Media Education Group, said in a press release. “As we build new learning programs and resources for Ontarians, their leadership will help us move with purpose and measure our success by the difference we make for learners across the province.”

Anastassiades replaces Chris Day, whose term as board chair comes to an end after serving in the role since 2020.

“I am grateful to Chris for the insight, steady commitment and valuable guidance he brought to our work together on the Board,” Anastassiades said in a statement. “His leadership helped TVO navigate a period of significant change and remain well positioned for the future. I am pleased to welcome Adesua as Vice-Chair and look forward to working with her, my fellow Board members, and TVO’s leadership team to deliver on TVO’s mandate in the best interests of Ontario learners.”

TVO Media Education Group is an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Education that contributes to learning, civic engagement and public service media across Ontario. To fulfill its mandate, TVO delivers curriculum-connected educational resources through TVO Learn and TVOkids, offers Ontario’s largest online high school through TVO ILC, and produces journalism, documentaries, current affairs programming and podcasts.
