MONTREAL – Quebecor’s broadcaster/TV producer/publisher TVA Group reported last week a net loss of $15.3 million in the third quarter of 2017, ended September 30th, compared with a net loss of $32.5 million in the same quarter of 2016.
Revenues climbed, however, by 6.8% in the quarter to $140.8 million, thanks largely to the growth of its TVA Sports channel, higher ad revenues at the main broadcaster, TVA, and better results at the film and TV production unit the company said in its press release. This was offset somewhat by declining revenues at its magazine division.
"We are satisfied with our third quarter of 2017 results, particularly in the broadcasting and production segment, which grew its advertising revenues for the fourth consecutive quarter,” said president and CEO France Lauzière, in a press release, “with more than 11% year-over-year increase for the segment as a whole, despite the fact that in the third quarter of 2016, TVA Sports broadcasted the games of the World Cup of Hockey tournament.”
TVA Group's total TV audience market share in television increased by 3.1 points to 37.1% of the Quebec market, which included news channel LCN’s growth of 1.1 points and TVA Network by 1.7 points to 24%. It carried seven of the top 10 shows in Quebec, including La Voix Junior which attracted more than 1.8 million viewers, said the company.
