TVA announces MELS 4

MONTREAL – TVA Group announced today the construction of MELS 4, an expansion of MELS studios, with support from the Government of Quebec and the City of Montreal.

“With MELS 4, we’re proud to present an even more attractive offering, through which we can meet the growing needs of the TV and movie mega-production industry,” said Martin Carrier, MELS president, in a press release.

The expansion, set to be completed in spring 2023, represents a $53 million infrastructure project and an additional $23 million in equipment investments over 10 years.

The Government of Quebec is providing $25 million, through Investissement Québec, for MELS 4 construction. The City of Montreal will also back the project, “including in terms of obtaining LEED certification,” according to the press release.

MELS 4 will cover 160,000 square feet, which includes 60,000 square feet for a new film studio that can be divided into two smaller studios. The remainder of the space will be used for staging areas, workshops and office space.

Once MELS 4 is complete, MELS will have 21 studios that total over 500,000 square feet of production space. Films that have used MELS studios include Transformers, Snow White and Catch Me If You Can.

“This project will allow MELS to attract even more major film shoots to its studios, generating considerable economic spinoffs for the city, the province and their cultural sector,” the press release reads.
