MONTREAL — Quebecor Media’s TVA Group is acquiring Incendo, a Montreal-based television production and distribution company, in a deal valued at $19.5 million, TVA Group announced Friday.

“TVA Group is happy to add Incendo, a local company with an international profile known for its excellent content, to its operations,” France Lauzière, president and CEO of TVA Group Inc. and chief content officer of Quebecor Content, said in a news release announcing the acquisition.

“The transaction is in keeping with our push to increase our revenues from other markets, step up our international development and expand our footprint, especially in English-language markets,” Lauzière added.

In addition to specializing in the production and worldwide distribution of high-quality television programming, Incendo also handles theatrical distribution in Quebec for Paramount Pictures. Based in Montreal, the company also has offices in Toronto and Los Angeles.

“In what is now a global content creation industry, Incendo has succeeded for 18 years in producing and distributing, here and around the world, high-quality dramas that have been enjoyed by tens of millions of television viewers, thanks to the expertise and experience of its people, of Quebec artists and professionals, of its Canadian and international partners, and its management team,” Jean Bureau, president of Incendo, said in the news release. “My team and I are very enthusiastic about joining TVA Group to continue expanding our production and export activities and accelerate our growth.”

TVA Group’s acquisition of Incendo is subject to certain adjustments and to customary closing conditions. The transaction is expected to close in the coming weeks.

In other recent acquisition news, earlier this month TVA Group finalized its acquisition of the Évasion and Zeste specialty channels.
