TORONTO – Canadian star R.H. Thomson (The Englishman’s Boy, October 1970) and labour activists from the CLC Media Caucus will hold a news conference at the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) Convention on May 26 at 1 p.m. to call on the government to take action on culture.
Specifically, the group will be pressuring the government to do away with the censorship provisions of Bill C-10, solidify foreign ownership limits on media companies, put a halt to further media convergence, fix the crisis in Canadian TV drama, and restore local news.
These topics are expected to be the focus of the CLC convention.
Other attendees at the rally include Peter Murdoch, from the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP); Arnold Amber, from Communications Workers of America/Syndicat des communications d’Amerique (CWA-SCA Canada); Ken Georgetti, from CLC and members of the CLC media caucus.
Cultural workers are represented by CLC affiliated unions including the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA), the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), the Canadian Auto Workers Union (CAW), the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), CEP, CWA-SCA Canada, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), Teamsters Canada and the United Steelworkers (USW).
