Trispec goes international

MONTREAL – Canadian broadband equipment supplier Trispec Communications is moving into the overseas market with the acquisition of 50% of Unitelco.

Based in Pinhal Novo, Portugal, Unitelco is a 40-employee company serving the broadband market in Portugal, Spain and Africa, Trispec president and CEO Nino Cesta told www.cartt.ca this afternoon.

The year-old company (whose partners, have over a decade of experience in the industry, says Cesta) provides construction, installation and engineering support to broadband (telco and cable) providers, “but was missing the equipment component, and that’s where we come in,” he added.

Trispec, which was founded in 1983 and has 40 employees of its own, has tried its hand in the European market before and has been on the prowl for an acquisition like this “since the mid to late 1990s,” said Cesta. “We could never find the right partner, until now.” He declined to disclose the purchase price.

The deal closed December 1st. “We’re really happy with the deal. It’s a real opportunity for growth in a market we’ve dabbled in for years.”
