MONTRÉAL – Trio Orange, a Canadian television and digital production company, and Quebecor Content announced today their new, 10-episode series Last Summers of the Raspberries is making its world premiere, closing the Berlinale series at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival.
“From February 14 to February 16, 2022, Berlinale Series will premiere a number of series that stand out for their creativity and originality,” a press release says.
“Last Summers of the Raspberries is the second Quebec television production to be selected by the Berlin International Film Festival since this program dedicated to television series was launched.”
The series is directed by Philippe Falardeau, written by Florence Longpré (Can You Hear Me?) and Suzie Bouchard (L’œil du cyclone, Pillow Talk), and produced by Julia Langlois, Annie Sirois and Carlos Soldevila, in collaboration with Quebecor Content.
It will be available in Quebec on Club Ilico as of April 14, 2022. It was shot last summer and stars Sandrine Bisson, Edison Ruiz, Micheline Lanctôt, Elijah Patrice and Paul Doucet.
The series tells “the story of Elisabeth, mother of two boys, who inherits the family farm following the sudden death of her husband. Despite having little experience in the field, she decides to quit her job at city hall and manage the farm while raising her two sons, William, a young deaf boy, and Junior, a narcissistic and insecure teen. Unaware of the trials and tribulations ahead, Elisabeth discovers a whole new world, alongside the farm’s seasonal workers, as she grapples with overly controlling in-laws and what she sees as questionable farming practices,” a synopsis in the press release reads.
“Last Summers of the Raspberries is a series in search of encounters—cultural and human encounters, both overwhelming and cathartic, somewhere between grief and exile, all on the back of a galloping horse, hair blowing in the wind.”
“We’re very proud to see that Last Summers of the Raspberries is attracting a lot of international interest and is being recognized at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival,” says Yann Paquet, vice-president of strategy and international business at Quebecor Content.
“This kind of recognition highlights the excellence of this series and the great talent of Quebec artists.”
