TORONTO – Tri-Vision International Ltd. has licensed its V-chip technology to Top Powersonic Co., Ltd. of Taiwan.
The OEM will manufacture all television digital receiver products made for sale in Canada and the United States. The licence will expire the same time as the U.S. and Canadian patents, in 2016.
Toronto-based Tri-Vision has issued 67 licences for its North American patents to companies including Sony, Hitachi, Sanyo, Pioneer, Philips, JVC, Panasonic, Sharp, and LG. A number of other major corporations, including Dell Inc., have committed to selling televisions under Tri-Vision’s licence.
The Tri-Vision V-chip is the only known patented technology able to accept modified or new ratings systems in digital TV receiver products, as part of the U.S.-mandated transition to digital required by the Federal Communications Commission by Mar. 1, 2007.
Top Powersonic is the LCD multimedia display arm of the Heron Corporation of Taiwan, making LCD television models ranging from 15 to 47 inches.
