TORONTO – Tri-Vision International has appointed David Garland as its new chief financial officer, replacing Khalid Usman, who is leaving the company to run for municipal office.
Garland has several years of financial experience in the high-tech and licensing sectors. He most recently served as Vice President of Finance and Controller to Certicom Corp., a developer of wireless security software solutions. He was also Vice-President and Controller, Delano
Technology Corporation; Director of Finance, Software, PRI Automation (Canada) Inc.; and Group Controller, PC DOCS International Inc. Garland holds a Masters of Accounting degree and CA, CPA, and CMA designations.
“David Garland is an exceptionally talented young man with broad experience in the high tech industry, in licensing, and in international agreements,” said Tri-Vision CEO Najmul Siddiqui. “His public company and governance experience will be invaluable to Tri-Vision as the company moves forward with its licensing and other corporate activities.”
Usman recently announced his candidacy for York regional councillor in the town of Markham in the Nov. 13 election. “I would like to thank Mr. Usman for the 20 years of solid counsel he has given the company, initially as the company’s independent auditor and then as Chief Financial Officer,” said Siddiqui. “He will remain on the board of directors, where his valuable contributions will continue.”
Tri-Vision also announced that Timothy Collings, inventor of the V-chip, and long-time Tri-Vision board member, has agreed to serve as non-executive chairman of the board of directors. “We are thrilled that Mr. Collings has agreed to take on these significant additional responsibilities and look forward to his guidance and leadership to our board of directors,” Siddiqui said.
Through its divisions, Tri-Vision licenses the V-chip globally and is a supplier to the broadband industry, among other things.
