
GATINEAU – John Traversy, the CRTC’s executive director, telecommunications, has been named the next Secretary General of the CRTC, Cartt.ca has learned, replacing Robert Morin, who is retiring.
In a short note to staff, CRTC chairman Konrad von Finckenstein let the folks at the Commission know that a notice tomorrow on the federal government’s public service staffing web site will note Traversy’s promotion after “a recent competitive process,” wrote the chair. “The appointment cannot be made officially until next Thursday the 25th, but since you will all see the announcement on the web site, I thought I would advise you now to save surprises. John Traversy will assume the role of Secretary General of the Commission, beginning October 2011.”

Traversy (pictured at right from a recent CRTC YouTube video), has worked at the CRTC since 1989, working his way up the ladder and is well regarded by those in the Canadian industry. He was appointed ED, telecom in October 2007.

Morin (right) joined the Commission as secretary general on April 23rd, 2007 and has worked in the public service for many years in various executive positions with several government departments and agencies, including as Secretary General of Industry Canada and Deputy Commissioner of Competition for the Competition Bureau of Canada.
