Traffic healthy on Alliance Atlantis’ blogtv.ca

TORONTO – Alliance Atlantis Communications Inc. says traffic to its user-generated video website called blogtv.ca reached 411,000 unique visitors in March 2007, and then doubled that in April. The service currently has 50,000 subscribed "broadcasters", with 1,000 new ones registering each day (This information has been corrected from an earlier version of the story).

Only Canadian-based web users can register for the service that launched in March, which has been profiled by Cartt.ca.

Users create more than 600 live shows daily, with topics ranging from family and relationships, hair dye, diet beverages, books and games, according to a media release issued by Alliance Atlantis.

BlogTV.ca contains live video-blogging and instant messaging – with these “live” component setting it apart from other social networking services such as YouTube, Facebook and MySpace, according to the specialty TV broadcaster.

“Canadians are quick to embrace the digital lifestyle, and have become one of the fastest growing communities of netizens in the world,” said Alliance Atlantis Communications Senior Vice-President of Digital Media Claude Galipeau. “BlogTV.ca grew out of a clear market need for a Canadian-made social media service, and it’s thrilling to see Canadians embrace blogTV.ca as their own social media platform.”
Alliance Atlantis Communications’ Director of Social Media and blogTV.ca Tim Lambertus added, “Broadcasters and viewers alike have become passionate about the blogtv.ca experience. Through live video blogging, blogTV.ca delivers a social media experience unlike anything else in Canada. People across the country are joining ‘virtual block parties’ inside themed shows on everything from hip hop to dating to gaming. It’s exciting to see Canadians changing and shaping what blogTV.ca is and what it will become.”
