MONTREAL – A delegation that includes representatives from the Québec Film and Television Council and major players in the Montreal film industry have embarked upon a three-day trade mission to Los Angeles to promote Montreal as an ideal production hub for American studios.
The city’s expertise in special effects and animation will be highlighted to Hollywood studios Universal, Fox, Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. through presentations by companies such as BUF, Digital District, Hybride, Mr. X and Rodeo FX.
Manon Gauthier, the Ville de Montréal executive committee member responsible for culture, heritage, design, Space for Life and the status of women, said that international film shoots in Quebec generated more than $310 million in economic benefits in 2015.
"With more than 40 special effects and animation studios and a pool of 3,000 specialists, Montréal has earned a well-deserved international reputation in this field”, said Gauthier, in the news release. “Our goal is to draw on this expertise to promote Montréal-based talent and attract more film shoots to our city. To this end, it's clear that the Oscar for Best Sound Editing won last week by Sylvain Bellemare for his work on the Denis Villeneuve film Arrival will be a formidable calling card for Montréal!"
