Toronto likes Andy Barrie

TORONTO – CBC Radio One 99.1 and its drive show Metro Morning, hosted by Andy Barrie, “continued its dominance of morning radio in Toronto,” says a CBC press release issued with the release of the Summer BBM ratings.

“Metro Morning (weekdays, 6-8:30 a.m.) maintained its position as the No.1 morning radio show in Toronto; over the last book there as been a two point jump in market share to 12.6%. Metro Morning has increased its audience by 22% to reach 428,100 listeners. BBM results also indicate that more people listen to CBC News both local and network (World Report – weekdays at 6, 7 and 8 a.m.) over any other newscast in their time periods in Toronto,” says the release.

“CBC Radio is Toronto’s top source for news and information, according to the latest BBM results released today, achieving the highest audience numbers in close to a decade with an average weekly audience of 621,200 listeners. CBC Radio has seen an increase of 13% in audience across the board and has leapt to number two overall in the market.”

CBC’s local afternoon programming also showed an increase. Ontario Today, CBC’s lunchtime show (noon to 2 p.m.) had a 23% increase in weekly audience reach, and Here and Now’s (weekdays, 3:30-6 p.m.) audience has increased by 17%.

Both World at Six (weekdays 6 p.m.) and current affairs show As it Happens (weekdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m.) continue to do well in Toronto with a more than 3 point jump in market share, strengthening their top positions.

“This is a wonderful endorsement of a lot of hard work by a dedicated group of people,” said Susan Marjetti, CBC Radio regional director in Toronto, in the release. “CBC Radio is clearly providing programming that reflects the diversity of Toronto and quality news broadcasts that matter to Torontonians. We look forward to attracting even more listeners as we move into the fall season.”
