Topic streaming service to premiere Eli: A Dog in Prison doc


NEW YORK — First Look Media’s streaming service, Topic, announced yesterday the documentary Eli: A Dog in Prison will premiere exclusively on Topic on August 26.

Produced and directed by Jason B. Kohl and Nora Mandray of Mako Films, the documentary follows three prisoners who form an unlikely bond as they struggle to transform a rambunctious but loveable Labrador puppy called Eli into a highly disciplined guide dog in 12 months, “all while charting their own uncertain path to rehabilitation in the broken American prison system,” reads a synopsis of the film.

Topic features North American premieres and programming from around the world, “complemented by a diverse slate of Originals including documentaries, scripted comedies and dramas, discussion shows, and more,” says a press release.

“With exclusive TV series and films that take you to more than 40 countries, Topic showcases an unparalleled diversity of creators, perspectives, and experiences. We prioritize bold storytelling, champion underrepresented voices, and believe that entertainment should expand your view of the world,” reads the release.

Topic is available in Canada and the U.S. on topic.com, Apple TV and iOS, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Android and Android TV, and Apple TV Channels, Roku Premium Channels, Amazon Prime Video Channels and Bell Fibe.

In addition to the Topic streaming service, New York-based First Look Media also owns Topic Studios and investigative news website The Intercept.
