Top cable/broadcast execs to discuss smart energy strategies at SCTE forum


EXTON, PA  -The cable and broadcast industry’s energy management challenges and new options for greater efficiency will be the topic of conversation when Comcast executive Mark Coblitz moderates a roundtable of cable and broadcast executives. The session takes place at the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers’ SEMI (Smart Energy Management Initiative) Forum 2012 on March 15 in Philadelphia.

“Ensuring the availability and reliability of power is essential to the future of our industry,” said Derek DiGiacomo, senior director, Information Systems and Energy Management for SCTE.  “Our panel will offer insights that will help attendees to better understand how operators, programmers and vendors can work together to sustain future growth.”

The executives will share insights on the energy challenges and opportunities facing the industry during the 75-minute panel, which is intended to expand on keynote remarks by Coblitz, Senior Vice President, Strategic Planning for Comcast Corporation.  Panelists will include:

•      John Schanz, Executive Vice President and Chief Network Officer, Comcast;

•      Steve Bradley, Director of Engineering/Sustainability, Cox Enterprises, Inc.;

•      Beth Colleton, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, NBCUniversal;

•      D’Arcy Brown, Director, Wireline Planning and Support, Rogers Communications; and

•      David Flessas, Senior Vice President, Network Operations and Planning, Time Warner Cable.

The first SEMI event to be open to attendance by all interested parties, SEMI Forum 2012 will address an expanded agenda of power, density, performance and sustainability issues during the full-day conference at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown.  The event will bring together operators, vendors and other experts to share knowledge on promising and proven approaches to energy management.
