TORONTO – 102.1 the Edge’s annual listeners’ choice awards will be hosted this year by actor/comedian/rap artist(?) Tom Green.
“Returning to his musical roots (his rap group Organized Rhyme had a Canadian hit with Check the O.R. in 1992), Green is not only the host of the 2005 CASBYs, he’s also one of the performers at the show,” says the press release.
Now a solo rap artist, Green and his Keepin’ It Real Crew (DJ E.Z. Mike, pro skateboard legend "Playboy" Jeremy Klein and MC Shawn Anthony) join previously announced CASBY (Canadian Artists Selected By You) performers Sloan, Theory of a Deadman, The Trews, The Waking Eyes, Metric and Bedouin Soundclash on stage at Toronto’s Kool Haus.
Green’s new album, Prepare for Impact drops Tuesday, December 6. The album is produced by Keepin’ It Real Crew member DJ E.Z. Mike (Mike Simpson), one half of the celebrated Dust Brothers. This legendary producer team crafted the Beastie Boys’ Paul’s Boutique, Beck’s Odelay, a number of songs from the Rolling Stones’ Bridges to Babylon and the musical score for the 1999 film Fight Club. DJ E.Z. Mike will spin beats throughout the show.
Representing the best in Canadian new rock, CASBY winners are selected completely by fan voting. Voting for this year’s CASBY winners continues until Sunday, October 30 at midnight on www.edge.ca. To be eligible for a 2005 CASBY Music Award, material must have been released between September 1, 2004 and August 31, 2005. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, November 23 during the CASBY Music Awards at the Kool Haus in Toronto. The only way to attend the show is to win tickets by listening to 102.1 the Edge.
