SAN JOSE, Calif. – TiVo announced this week it is moving into the direct-to-consumer market in Canada by launching its new TiVo EDGE for antenna users in the U.S. and Canada.
The device (pictured) is a 4K Ultra High Definition (UHD) capable, live-TV DVR, all-in-one media device (so it streams, too) designed to work with an HD antenna and is also equipped with an on-screen user experience.
TiVo Edge is going straight to consumers, sold through its web site and some yet-to-be-announced electronics retailers, but not through TiVo’s Canadian BDU partners such as Cogeco, Westman and Access.
Its features include:
- SkipMode, which allows viewers to skip to the end of a commercial break and resume watching instantly with the touch of a button.
- Voice Control and OneSearch, which lets viewers simultaneously search live TV, TiVo EDGE, and streaming apps to find what they’re looking for using their voice.
- OnePass lets users track down each season and episode of their favorite shows, automatically recording current and upcoming episodes and adding them to the shows’ playlist, ready to be watched.
- A 500 GB hard drive (up to 75 HD recording hours), and two tuners.
Popular streaming apps like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video come pre-loaded on the device, too.
“TiVo EDGE for antenna gives viewers access to live, recorded, and streaming TV all from one device, making it a great alternative for those that have cut the cord but still want to enjoy a cable TV-like experience,” reads the release. It also includes Dolby Atmos, and Dolby Vision HDR, for the best picture possible.
The TiVo EDGE for antenna is available now for C$299.99 and has a service plan of $8.99 monthly, or$89.99 annually.
TiVo also announced the launch of its first ever streaming channel, TiVo+, which will deliver live streaming channels as well as thousands of movies and TV shows to viewers in an app-free environment, so they’re easier to find and watch, in partnership with brands like XUMO, TMZ, Junkin Media and others.
However, TiVo+ will only be available to U.S. viewers, Cartt.ca has confirmed.
