ALVISO, CA – TiVo Inc. announced Monday that TiVo DVRs (digital video recorders) will be sold in retail stores in Canada, except in Quebec, in time for the holidays.
The DVR is also referred to as a PVR, or personal video recorder, and it records and stores programming to an internal hard drive for future viewing. Along with being able to pause, rewind and fast forward live TV, the device permits searching for programming by name, favourite actors, genre or keyword.
TiVo is pushing new high-definition models in the United States, but the version – the TiVo Series2 DT DVR – being sold in Canada is the standard DVR. Its comes with such features as SeasonPass recordings, WishList searches, Online Scheduling, TiVoToGo transfers, Multi-Room viewing, and TrickPlay functionality, which enables users to pause, rewind, instant replay and slow-motion live TV. The TiVo Series2 DT DVR can hold up to 80 hours of standard-definition content and allows consumers to record two shows at once.

The TiVo Series2 DT DVR will be available in early December at major Canadian retailers, including Best Buy, The Brick, London Drug and Future Shop for $199 plus standard TiVo subscription fees of $12.95 a month or as low as $8.31 a month with a three-year prepaid plan. TiVo will not be available in Quebec immediately.
