This is Daniel Cook covering the election

TORONTO – While some would say politicians sometimes act like children, CTV is giving a real kid a chance to find out.

Today, CTV announced it has signed Canada’s most famous eight-year-old redhead, Daniel Cook, to cover the election campaign. Cook, a Gemini Award nominee and star of television’s This is Daniel Cook, will report on the Federal Election campaign. His primary assignment will be for CTV Newsnet’s Countdown with Mike Duffy, where Cook (pictured chatting today with Conservative leader Stephen Harper) will file a weekly report Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT beginning January 5.

Cook asked Harper, “Why he would make a better Prime Minister than Paul Martin?” and “Why do politicians do so much name calling?” The interview can be seen in its entirety tomorrow when Cook makes his CTV Newsnet premiere.

“I’m looking forward to my new career as a political reporter,” said Daniel Cook, in a press release. “I think it’s really fun!”

“In Daniel Cook, we have a young man wise beyond his years,” said Countdown host Mike Duffy. “Armed with an 8-year old point of view, he has a knack for cutting through the clutter with some very simple, but important questions the rest of us ‘jaded’ journalists believe are too obvious to ask. Often these kinds of questions lead to quite candid revelations by politicians. I’m looking forward to his reports.”

This Is Daniel Cook is currently in its second season on Treehouse TV, TVO and The Disney Channel in the U.S.
