MONTREAL – SEASONS, a French-language channel dedicated to all things hunting, fishing and nature across the world was launched today by THEMA – a CANAL+ company, perhaps best known here as the distributor of Planete+.

SEASONS has been on the French market for 20 years in Europe and other francophone markets and is being launched now to coincide with the start of hunting season, a key period for over 400,000 hunters and nearly 815,000 Quebec fishermen. The launch of SEASONS will also be supported by a large-scale campaign (print, web and grassroots).

SEASONS is available now from Cogeco Cable and starting October, the channel will be available from Bell Fibe TV, CCAP and Sogetel.

Canada already has an English-language hunting and fishing channel, Edmonton-based WildTV.

SEASONS will showcase programming tailored to each season and reflecting the characteristics of these activities worldwide. The channel’s key weekly shows include TV magazine Terroirs which will highlight the lives of men and women passing down their regional traditions, Pêches modernes which will reveal the latest fishing technological innovations, and Chasses au Pluriel which will focus on environmentally responsible hunting. Each week, SEASONS will broadcast 50 hours of hunting shows and 50 hours of fishing shows, with never-before-seen documentaries and regular magazines.

This upcoming launch is a new example of the synergy achieved between the production of niche channels and their distribution through specialized subsidiaries within the Canal+ Group, says the company’s press release.

Over the next year, the channel also plans to produce and air an hour per week of Canadian content, as well.
