‘The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration’ to air nationally, stream globally

TORONTO – Fans of the Tragically Hip in Canada and around the world will be able to take in Saturday’s concert in Kingston, ON live and commercial free across all CBC platforms beginning at 8:30 pm ET on August 20. 

The public broadcaster confirmed that The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration will broadcast nationally and stream globally across CBC, CBC Radio One, CBC Radio One on SiriusXM Channel 169, CBC Radio 2, CBCMusic.ca/thehip, ICIMusique.ca, CBC Music’s YouTube channel and Facebook page, and the CBC Music app on iPhone, iPad and Android devices, as well as the new CBC Music app on Apple TV.  There will be no on demand or online streaming playback of the full event following the broadcast.

In addition to CBCs coverage, some 420 community viewing parties across Canada and internationally have been confirmed.

The 15-date sold out cross-Canada tour coincides with the release of the band’s 14th studio album, Man Machine Poem, and was announced after frontman Gord Downie (pictured) revealed that he was diagnosed with an incurable form of brain cancer.
