TORONTO – Bell Media’s The Movie Network (TMN) announced today it has signed new exclusive output deals with most major movie studios, securing hits that it can air on mulitple platforms “for years to come.”
The company did not announce how many years nor any financial details of these new deals.
TMN will now have the Canadian first-window rights for film titles from: 20th Century Fox and Fox Searchlight Films; Entertainment One; Sony Pictures Entertainment; Universal Pictures and Focus Features; and Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.
Bell Media had already announced a long-term agreement with Lionsgate to distribute its future theatrical releases in Canada in a first pay window, plus bring the Starz brand to Canada, and the company also has an exclusive on HBO content.
"When Wonder Woman premiered on the service last February it was the most-watched film in TMN history, clearly demonstrating an appetite for big-buzz, critically acclaimed movies in the pay TV landscape," said Tracey Pearce, Bell Media's president, distribution and pay, in the press release. "Today's news adds unparalleled value to a TMN subscription and reinforces our commitment to and investment in premium and exclusive content."
TMN has also secured offline viewing rights for these film titles available through its video-streaming platform TMN GO.
