The Last of Us season premiere sees record-breaking streaming viewership on Crave

Bell Media on Monday announced that the Season 2 debut Sunday of HBO’s The Last of Us achieved record-breaking success on Crave, experiencing a 23-per-cent increase in streaming viewership compared to the Season 1 premiere.

The debut episode of Season 2 achieved the third-highest season premiere Day 1 streaming numbers in Crave history, surpassed by only the premieres of Season 2 of House of the Dragon and Season 8 of Game of Thrones, Bell Media said in a press release, citing mParticle/Adobe Analytics streaming data.

The Last of Us was the top title on Crave on Sunday night, and leading up to the Season 2 premiere, streaming viewership for Season 1 rose by 124 per cent week-over-week, Bell Media said.

Airing Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on Crave, the second season of The Last of Us is set five years after the events of the first season. Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) find themselves drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind. Other returning cast members include Gabriel Luna and Rutina Wesley, who are joined by new cast members Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, Spencer Lord, Danny Ramirez and Jeffrey Wright, with Catherine O’Hara guest starring.

HBO announced last week it is renewing The Last of Us for a third season.
