TORONTO – Telus has signed a five-year, multi-million dollar contract with Best Buy Canada Ltd., one of the country’s fastest growing entertainment and technology retailers, to connect all of its stores across Canada with a private IP network, winning the business away from incumbent Allstream.
Specific financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“Our guiding principle is to develop and provide the best shopping experience,” said Brian Martin, CTO for Best Buy Canada (the company also owns Future Shop). “To maximize the opportunities the digital age affords us, we need a foundation that supports our guiding principle and Telus is an industry leader in delivering innovative solutions. Our Telus IP network reduces operating costs and improves the experience for our customers who will enjoy the new efficiencies that let us better serve them.”
“Telus IP networks simplify the challenge of managing multiple brands and numerous locations across Canada," said Joe Natale, president of Telus Business Solutions. "This new partnership reflects Telus’ ongoing commitment to being the leading provider of IP-based network solutions in Canada.”
Telus’ IP network will carry voice, video and data over a single network infrastructure, allowing Best Buy to reduce costs. At the same time, Best Buy is enhancing its communication capabilities, meeting customer demands through advanced applications designed to improve efficiencies, supporting sales staff and delivering a unique shopping experience to Canadians, says the press release.
The Telus IP solution is fully compatible with Best Buy Canada’s existing network, reducing implementation risks and enabling new productivity-enhancing applications like a new point-of-sale system, video conferencing, multimedia, gaming, and music.
