Telus wants Rimouski included in its BDU licence

GATINEAU — Telus has applied to the CRTC to have its broadcasting distribution undertaking in Rimouski, Que., currently operating under exemption, to be added to its regional licence for operating terrestrial BDU services in Quebec.

Telus’s Rimouski undertaking has completed two consecutive years of serving more than 21,000 subscribers and is therefore required to be re-licensed, says the company’s Part 1 application dated November 11 and posted to the Commission’s website today.

“Telus wishes to amend the current licence for its Regional Licence for various locations in Quebec to once again include the serving area of Rimouski, Quebec. Telus requests that this new undertaking be subject to the conditions of licence set out for each of its other licensed serving areas contained in Appendix to Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2019-230 ‘Terms, conditions of licence and expectations for the terrestrial broadcasting distribution undertakings serving Baie-Comeau, Montmagny, Mont-Tremblant, Sainte-Marie, Saint-Georges and Sept Iles, and their surrounding areas, Quebec’,” reads Telus’s application.

Telus’s regional licence took effect July 1, 2019 and will expire August 31, 2024. The company is simply asking for its Rimouski undertaking to be added to the list of BDUs covered by its regional licence. Rimouski is on the St Lawrence River, about 320 kms northeast of Quebec City
