VANCOUVER – Telus has proclaimed itself Canada’s #MostGivingCompany after contributing $150 million and one million volunteer hours to charitable organizations in the past year.
This month also marks the start of Telus’ 14th annual Days of Giving that will see 40,000 employees and retirees volunteer at thousands of activities to help create more sustainable communities across Canada and around the world. In 2018, 36,000 Telus volunteers participated in Days of Giving events through nearly 2,000 initiatives, including sorting food at food banks, filling backpacks with school supplies for children in need, and serving healthy meals to feed the hungry.
“Companies that embrace social capitalism do so by using their core business to serve a greater social purpose that benefits all of their stakeholders, from shareholders and customers to our most vulnerable citizens”, said Telus president and CEO Darren Entwistle, in the news release. “At Telus, social purpose is not supplemental to our strategy, but rather the central thesis of what we do, why we do it and what we stand for as a culture.”
Telus said that it has contributed $1.2 billion to charitable organizations in Canada, including $690 million in financial support and 1.3 million days of caring and volunteerism, since 2000.
Telus also maintains a Connecting For Good portfolio of programs that include Internet for Good, offering low cost high speed internet to low income families; Mobility for Good, which provides fully subsidized smartphones and data plans to youth transitioning out of foster care; Health for Good, which uses mobile health clinics to provide healthcare to vulnerable and underserved Canadians; and Assistive Tech for Good that provides compatible assistive technology, training and support to Canadians with severe physical limitations.
