DAWSON CREEK and FORT ST. JOHN, BC – Telus is establishing a direct fibre connection to Dawson Creek, Fort St. John and the community of Charlie Lake in British Columbia.

Planning is currently underway, and construction work will begin in the spring, with homes and businesses connected before the end of this year.  Telus said that connecting to its fibre optic network will boost data capacity, providing local homes access to Internet speeds of up to 150 Mbps, and even faster speeds for businesses, healthcare providers and schools.

The company added that it will spend $10 million to connect more than 90% of homes and businesses in Dawson Creek, and $18 million to connect more than 90% of homes and businesses in Fort St. John and Charlie Lake.  This investment is part of Telus’ commitment to invest $4 billion throughout B.C. through 2018, and is consistent with its overall capital expenditure guidance for 2016.

“Direct fibre connection unleashes infinite possibilities now and into the future,” said Telus EVP and broadband networks president Tony Geheran, in the news release.  “Along with enhancing the connectivity residents enjoy in their homes, this investment will dramatically enhance the speeds and capacity available to local businesses both small and large, enabling entrepreneurs and organizations to thrive locally while reaching global audiences through the growing digital economy.”
