Telus says be aware of phone scammers, don’t give out personal info

CALGARY – Telus Corp. is telling its customers not to give out personal information to people who call, and to hang up on them as a phone scam has emerged in British Columbia, Alberta and Alberta.

The scam involves someone calling who claims to work for Telus and offers a deal on a phone service. The scam artist asks for personal information, such as social insurance number, credit card number and Telus account numbers.

Telus warns that those customers who hand over the requested information could suffer identity theft or other fraud.

“Any legitimate Telus agent calling you will have your name and account information accessible, and will not need to ask you for basic information,” Telus said in a statement.
