BRITISH COLUMBIA and ALBERTA — Telus announced today residents and businesses in several more communities in British Columbia and Alberta are getting access to Telus’ 5G network this week.
Beginning October 9, Telus is expanding its 5G network to Burnaby, Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam, and Surrey and White Rock in British Columbia, and to Leduc, Stony Plain and the neighbouring areas of Parkland County and Acheson in Alberta.
“Telus’ 5G network is built on the backbone of Telus PureFibre technology, making our 4G LTE network the fastest and most reliable in the world,” said Tony Geheran, executive vice-president and chief customer officer at Telus, in the various B.C.-related press releases. “While early 5G will help boost connectivity and wireless speeds like never before, the real promise of 5G is how this revolutionary technology will help businesses innovate and shape the future of the Canadian economy.”
Telus says it will expand its 5G network to almost 50 communities across the country by the end of the year. Telus has previously launched 5G availability in Maple Ridge, New Westminster, Pitt Meadows, Port Moody, Vancouver and Victoria in B.C., as well as Calgary, Edmonton, Fort Saskatchewan, Sherwood Park, Spruce Grove and St. Albert in Alberta. Telus 5G is also available in Montreal, Toronto and Windsor, Ont.
Telus is using existing LTE-A frequencies for its 5G launch until new spectrum is made available throughout 2021-22.
