Telus announced Tuesday it has launched Wi-Fi 7 for its PureFibre internet customers on gigabit speed plans or above initially in select areas of British Columbia, with availability in Alberta and Quebec soon to follow.
Delivering speeds up to four times faster than Wi-Fi 6, Telus’s new Boost Wi-Fi 7 internet router is built with at least 65-per-cent recycled plastic and comes in plastic-free packaging made from 90-per-cent recycled cardboard, according to a Telus press release.
“The launch of Wi-Fi 7 is a game-changer for connected homes across Canada underscoring our commitment to delivering an unparalleled internet experience,” Zainul Mawji, executive vice president and president of Telus consumer solutions, said in the press release. “By combining cutting-edge, sustainable designed hardware with the unmatched power of our fibre technology, we’re enabling Canadians to enjoy faster, more reliable and future-ready internet so they can stay ahead in today’s digital world.”
Telus’s Wi-Fi 7 hardware uses advanced multi-link operation to enable customers’ devices to connect across multiple Wi-Fi bands at once, which helps to reduce lag and keep the connection smooth, even when multiple users are online at the same time, Telus said. Wi-Fi 7 also ensures faster, more reliable performance in every room, making it perfect for homes and hybrid workspaces, Telus added.
The new hardware will integrate seamlessly with the Telus Connect app for easy setup and control, Telus said, adding that additional features and integration with the Telus SmartHome+ app is coming later this year.
