In honour of Earth Month, Telus has launched two new initiatives offering customers a way to join the telecom in reforestation efforts, following two record-breaking wildfire years in Canada.
From April 17 to May 15, for every new or certified pre-owned Android device purchased by a new or returning customer, Telus will plant a tree in a wildfire-affected region of Canada. In addition, when a customer trades in any used device, Telus will plant a bonus tree. This promotion is available in select Telus and Koodo stores, online or via customer service reps.
On April 22, Telus launched limited-edition “Tree Totes” at Telus stores nationwide. These 100-per-cent recycled cotton tote bags are available for $3, and for every bag purchased, Telus will plant a tree in wildfire-affected areas in Canada.
According to a recent U.S. study cited by Telus, replanted areas that have suffered from wildfires can experience regrowth up to 25 per cent faster than areas that were not replanted.
Over the past two decades, as part of its long-standing initiative to restore nature, Telus has planted 19 million trees, covering an area equivalent to the size of Vancouver, where the telecom is headquartered. Telus said it has also diverted 15 million devices from landfills, including four million mobile devices that were upcycled and recycled since 2010.
